During the 2023 NCSG Convention, Jim Brewer, who represents NCSG on the NFPA 211 committee, shared standards updates proposed for the 2024 edition. Convention session attendees expressed concerns regarding proposed language 15.4.2.4, which may reduce the inspection scope based on the customer’s request.

Thank you NCSG members for submitting your comments Fall 2022 regarding UL/ULC1390 Standard for Fireplace Inserts & Hearth-mounted Stoves for Installation into Masonry Fireplaces! John Wade, Task Group Chair, Draft standards UL/ULC 1390, UL/ULC 1391, mentioned that over 120 comments were received during the Preliminary review stage.

Ankeny, Iowa — The National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG) has officially launched the new Chimney Professional Certification Program. Chimney sweeps can become a Certified Chimney Professional (CCP), Certified Chimney Reliner (CCR) and Certified Chimney Journeyman (CCJ) beginning today.
The new and enhanced certifications were developed over the past year with the input of nearly 600 chimney sweeps following rigorous international standards. NCSG has worked transparently with the industry to ensure the tasks, knowledge and skills demonstrated by passing the CCP, CCR and CCJ exams recognize the credibility of the certified chimney professional.
At NCSG, it is part of our duty as a Guild to inform our members and certification holders of changes and updates in policies surrounding the industry.

When completed in 2022, the ANSI accreditation will offer chimney and venting professionals certifications that are held to the highest possible standard.
