The National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG) and Stratus Insurance Services Inc. announced that they will now offer discounted Commercial General Liability insurance to NCSG members.

The general liability insurance program covers bodily injury, property damage, products, completed operations, personal injury, medical expense and professional liability. The professional liability insurance coverage enhancement addresses chimney inspections.

Primary limits of $1 million per occurrence are provided in the program. Excess limits up to $5 million are available upon request. "The amount of the NCSG member discount will vary from company to company, based on each company's exposures and experience,” said Mark McSweeney, NCSG Executive Director. “Many sweeps have found that the discount can considerably offset membership dues.”

McSweeney adds, “The success of this program is largely based on the combined strength of our industry. Coverage availability and rate stability will both be greatly enhanced by pooling our premiums together. This also significantly reduces the potential for policy cancellation as a result of a claim.”

The insurance carrier, Colony Insurance is rated “A” (Excellent) by A.M Best & Co. a widely-recognized rating organization of insurance companies. Chimney service professionals who are not members of the NCSG can also purchase liability insurance from Stratus Insurance Services, Inc., however, only members are eligible for discounted rates. Unfortunately, coverage is currently unavailable in the boroughs of New York City.
