Government Affairs: What NCSG Members Need To Know

The purpose of the Government Affairs Committee is to inform NCSG members and the industry of new, pending and existing state house and senate bills pertaining to the chimney, venting and hearth industry.

The Government Affairs Committee endeavors to keep abreast of existing (and pending) legislation that impacts our industry and strives to share the impact of any State legislative actions via an up-to-date web presence on ncsg.org.

Through established relationships with other professional trade organizations, the Government Affairs Committee is designed to guide individuals through the process of establishing and/or networking with grass root efforts within their own region to effect changes regarding legislative actions which may be impacting their livelihood.

This bill prohibits the transportation of firewood into the State. The Director of the Bureau of Forestry within the Department of Conservation is authorized to use rulemaking to implement the prohibition. Firewood that is packaged and clearly labeled as kiln dried or certified by the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is exempt from the prohibition. This bill also requires the director to use available resources to conduct surveillance to  detect the presence of the emerald ash borer and the Asian longhorned beetle.

Utah Construction Trades Continuing Education Amendment This bill modifies provisions of the Utah Construction Trades Licensing Act related to continuing education. This bill: . defines approved continuing education; requires a contractor licensee to complete six hours of approved continuing education during a two-year licensing cycle; . requires the commission, with the concurrence of the division, to establish a program of approved continuing education for contractor licensees; authorizes the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing to charge a reasonable fee to administer the continuing education program; and . modifies a provision relating to what constitutes unlawful conduct under the Utah Construction Trades Licensing Act.
